L.K. Monroe serves as Chair of the Oakport Oversight Committee and as a Board Member for SupplyBank.org. She is the Principal and Founder of Teamed Up for Good – A Social Purpose Corporation. Teamed Up for Good provides strategies and resources to help communities flourish through deep investment in their children.
L.K. has an unwavering focus on equity and justice. She is committed to systems change through addressing the all too common conditions and persistently poor outcomes that exist in so many communities of color in poverty across our country. LK began her career as a Legislative Intern for the late Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm. She then managed and led several education related nonprofits and governmental agencies, and later became a teacher and principal in the Oakland Unified School District.
L.K. served for two terms as the elected Alameda County Superintendent of Schools. She also served as president of the California County Superintendents organization — a post she held throughout the pandemic. During her tenure, she worked in partnership with local, State, and national entities to position the Alameda County Office of Education as a leader and model of social justice in action.
L.K. holds a degree from the Sol Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California, a teaching credential from Holy Names University, and her administrative credential from the national New Leaders educational leadership program. She resides in Oakland, California and has two adult children.
