A Sneak Peek at the Future Oakport Campus

August 18, 2026

Oakport Executive Director Benito Delgado-Olson and EBMUD Board President Luz María Gómez recently joined KTVU FOX 2 to share something we have been working toward for years: a closer look at what the Oakport Campus will become.

The segment gave viewers a sneak peek at the vision for Oakport in East Oakland — bringing together public infrastructure, disaster preparedness, nonprofit services, environmental restoration, and public access in one campus.

At the center of Phase 1 is a new shared warehouse facility that will significantly expand SupplyBank.org’s ability to receive, store, and distribute diapers, school supplies, emergency-response materials, and other essential goods throughout California. The project will also provide EBMUD with new operational capacity for equipment and materials storage and help strengthen regional emergency response and drinking-water resilience.

The campus also includes major site and infrastructure improvements, including reconstruction of Oakport Street, new sidewalks, bicycle and pedestrian improvements, street lighting, stormwater bioswales, drainage improvements, and new utility infrastructure. Together, these investments will transform the site and create the foundation for the broader Oakport vision.

The renderings featured during the KTVU interview also offer a glimpse of what comes next.

Following Phase 1, Oakport plans to advance Phase 2: the Oakport Nonprofit Center. Designed as a mass-timber building created specifically for the nonprofit sector, it is envisioned to become the largest newly constructed nonprofit center in the nation, providing long-term affordable space for nonprofit organizations and a permanent hub for collaboration and community service.

The television segment originally aired while Oakport and its partners were pursuing additional state funding for Phase 1. While that proposal was not ultimately funded, the project continues to move forward. Phase 1 permits will be submitted to the City of Oakland on August 31, and the campus shown in these renderings continues to move closer to reality.

Watch the KTVU segment for a sneak peek at the future Oakport Campus — and what is taking shape in East Oakland.
